Making Sure the Breakers Don’t Break!

The electrical system in a home includes many unique appliances, like the electrical panel. Also known as a breaker box, this device is one of the most powerful parts of the electrical system. All electricity that goes into the home passes through the breaker system first. If anything uses too much energy, a Breaker can turn off the electrical supply. That’s when it’s important to work with an Electrician from Milestone.

At Milestone, our skilled team of Electricians understands how the electrical system works and what repairs may be needed. If you’re having an issue with the electric panel, our team can inspect and repair it for you.

What's an Electrical Panel?

Electrical panels are found in every home and are required to provide power throughout the house. The goal of the breaker system is to make sure energy is supplied to all devices in the home. The electric panel can also help prevent severe issues within the walls where the wiring is located if a switch becomes overloaded. Switches, also known as circuits, help to regulate how electricity flows through the home. If it overloads, it causes the breaker to trip and the electricity will stop flowing to that part of the home. This is what it is supposed to do.

Finding the Electric Panel

Know where the electrical panel is in the home and how it works in case of an emergency. Electrical panels aren’t always in the same location. The location can vary, even from neighbor to neighbor, based on the age of the home, its layout, and other features. For newer homes, the breaker box may be outside or in a garage. For older homes, it’s often located in the utility room or a closet. Make sure it is easily accessible. There should be at least three feet of clearance around the electrical panel.

Panel Upgrades in Southlake

Though it’s a good idea to know the basics of how panels work, it’s never a good idea to tackle an upgrade alone. This is a job best left to the professionals, as they have the training needed to do it properly and safely. One of the Milestone Technicians is available to look at the electrical system, evaluate the panel’s safety, and make sure it’s in good condition. It’s possible repairs are needed, though the panel may be in good shape. Depending on what’s going on, emergency repairs may be needed.

No matter what the condition is, our Electrician can let you know about any issues and what work may be needed to get it back in shape. We only offer the best solutions to help you get the panel back in good condition and working the way you’d expect. If you do have any questions about the repairs needed or whether an upgrade is necessary, our Electrician can answer them for you.

Electrical Panel Replacements

Most repairs can be done immediately by a licensed Electrician. Sometimes, however, the repairs aren’t going to get the panel back in good shape, so it will need to be replaced. This is often recommended if it’s the only way to safely provide the home with electricity. An Electrician from Milestone may suggest replacing the panel if it’s more than 15 years old, has visible corrosion, if there are several types of breakers used, or if there are any signs of rust. Do not remove the cover of the electrical panel without help from an Electrician.
