Milestone Electric, Inc. Notifies Consumers of Data Security Incident
DALLAS, Texas – October 8, 2020 – Milestone Electric, Inc. (“Milestone”) has become aware of a data security incident that may have involved the personal information of some Milestone customers. We have sent letters to the potentially-impacted individuals to notify them about this incident.
On May 26, 2020, Milestone discovered that an employee email account had been accessed without authorization by a malicious actor. Upon discovery of the incident, we engaged a digital forensics firm to perform a forensic investigation. On September 10, the investigation revealed that the malicious actor may have accessed personal information relating to customers. Based on our investigation, the affected personal information may have included names, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, diagnosis information, health insurance information including information regarding mental or physical condition, provision of healthcare, diagnosis information, medical procedure information, prescription and treatment information, provider names, health insurance member/group numbers, driver’s license/state identification numbers, financial account numbers, credit card numbers, and/or access codes to financial or credit card accounts.
While Milestone is not aware of the misuse of any information impacted by this incident, on October 1, we sent notification letters to potentially-impacted individuals about this incident, providing information about steps they can take to protect their personal information. We also provided access to complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services. We take the security of customer information very seriously, and we are taking steps to prevent a similar event from occurring in the future.
Milestone has established a toll-free call center to answer questions about the incident and to address related concerns. Call center representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central Time and can be reached at 1-800-939-4170.
The privacy and protection of personal and protected health information is a top priority for Milestone, and we deeply regret any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause.
